Teaching aims

Students can understand the content of this cartoon-the conversation between Bobby, Sam, and the robot.

Students can understand the new words “cool” and “jump” and know how to describe the appearance and abilities of that robot.

Students will not judge a person by his appearance and learn from others.

Teaching procedures

Step 1: Warming-up

1. Greetings.

2. Show a video clip from the movie Big Hero 6 which shows the robot Baymax, then ask students whether they like Baymax and why.

Next, invite students to answer the questions “What can Baymax do?” “Can Baymax jump?” and lead into the topic naturally.

Step 2: Pre-reading

Show some pictures on the textbook to the students and guide them to describe the look of this robot. Then, encourage students to guess “what can the robot do?” Invite some students to share their predictions.

Step 3: While-reading

1. Extensive reading

Read the passage for students and ask them to find what robot can do and check their predictions.

Then invite two students to share the answers and write down the answers on the blackboard.

2. Intensive reading

Listen to the tape and ask students to complete the conversation on the screen:

B: These robots are _____!

S: Look at this robot. His _____are very big.

B: Can you _____?

R: Yes, _____.

B: You are great, but you’re _____.

R: Look! Now I’m _____!

Then lead students to answer and invite some of them to write down the answers on the blackboard.

3. Ask students to read after the tape to imitate the intonation and pronunciation.

Step 4: Post-reading

Let students to imagine they have just bought a new Baymax from the supermarket and their best friend is at their home. Work in groups of three and make conversation with their friend and Baymax. 6 minutes are given. Finally, invite some pairs to share their conversations and give positive comments.

Step 5: Summary and Homework

Summary: invite a student to be a little teacher and give a summary. Ask students not to judge a person by his appearance and try to learn more from him.

Homework: ask students to design their robots and introduce them to us next class.

1.请谈谈你的热身导入活动。

俗话说好的开始是成功的一半,所以导入是非常重要的。导入的作用有两个,一是激发学生的兴趣,二是和本堂课建立关联。

首先,和同学们招呼。其次给他们播放一个影片—超能陆战队。影片内容讲的是关于机器人大白。在看完视频后询问学生是否喜欢大白以及理由。接下来我邀请了同学回答我一个问题-大白能做什么?同学们可能会给我一些答案,比如他能治疗疾病,保护健康,还能飞翔。再者,我会问同学们大白是否能够跳跃?通过这个活动,能充分的激发学生的兴趣,并且能导入我们本堂课的话题—机器人。

所以我认为这个导入是比较合理的,在今后我也会根据课本内容采取多种多样的导入方式,比如图片,诗歌以及谜语等等。

As the saying goes, well begun is half done, so warming-up is very important. This part has two functions, one is to arouse students’ interest, the other is to establish a connection with the class.

First, greet my classmates. Next, show a movie called Big Hero 6 to them. The movie is about the robot Baymax. After watching the video, ask the students if they like Baymax and why. Next, I invited my classmates to answer my question - what can Baymax do? Classmates may give me some answers, such as he can cure diseases, keep healthy, and can fly. Moreover, I will ask the students if Baymax can jump? Through this activity, students’ interest can be fully stimulated and the topic of the class -- robots can be introduced.

反思教学能够促进教师的成长。对于本堂课我将从三方面进行评价。

第一教学目标。通过学习生词以及文本处理,能让学生理解卡通故事的内容以及锻炼他们的阅读听力能力。

第二,教学方法。本堂课我主要采用任务型教学法和交际教学法,通过完成由简到难的任务,让同学们掌握本堂课的重难点。通过创设情境,让同学们在真实的语言环境中锻炼口语。

第三,教学活动。本堂课我设计了多样的教学活动,比如视频导论,图片预测,泛读和精读,口语交际活动。这些活动都能够丰富课堂。

总之,本堂课的设计还是比较合理的。当然还会有一些不足之处,比如可以多一些师生和生生互动。在今后的教育教学中,我一定会以学生为中心,让学生能够学以致用。

Reflecting on teaching can promote the growth of teachers. I'm going to evaluate this class in three ways.

First, teaching objectives. By learning new words and text processing, students can understand the content of cartoon stories and train their reading and listening ability.

Second, teaching methods. In this class, I mainly use the Task-based Teaching Method and the Communicative Teaching Method. By completing the tasks from the simple to difficult, students can master the key and difficult points of this class. Situation creating enables the students to practice oral English in a real language environment.

Third, teaching activities. In this class, I designed various teaching activities, such as video introduction, picture prediction, extensive and intensive reading, oral communication activities. These activities can enrich the class.

Anyway, the design of this class is reasonable. Of course, there are still some disadvantages, for example, I can increase interaction between teachers and students. In future education and teaching, I will bear it in mind that students are the center of this class, and the goal is to guide students to use what they have learned in the real life.
